This vintage Art Deco Nut Bird wood lamp is a lovely example of 1930s home decor. The simple styling of the wooden base highlights the quirky carved bird perched on the side with its red bakelite beak and glass eyes. With its white glass globe shade it will make a gorgeous accent piece in a vintage setting or in a lounge with a more modern contemporary look as an eye catching statement piece.
The technical bit-
A rare example from a range of MID 30’s Art Deco craftsmanship consisting of bookends, ashtrays and smaller numbers of lamps. This was made in London bearing the stamped NOVELTIC trade mark of LONDON MADE. These were one of the better quality items produced at the time in an effort to compete with the YZ company and deliberately made in the style of the ever popular HENRY HOWELL items of the period. Original writing on the base shows it’s price to have been 12 shillings and six, so by no means an inexpensive item.
Made of hard wood with the bird being made from the Tagua nut with red phenolic bakelite feet and beak together with very crisp bright glass eyes. This lamp is in perfect condition with its original bakelite switched bulb holder and what is without doubt a later shade and gallery in the Art Deco style but a good marriage. It has been sympathetically cleaned with a wood cream, hand buffed and rewired with a new vintage look braided wire and safety tested.
For overseas buyers this can be supplied with a EU or US plug
For US buyers this lamp will be tested in a 240V to 120V stepdown voltage converter which will ensure that it will be suitable for a US supply.
